Flood

06 Nov

One of the last days of my mom at the hospital, a nurse just arrived at work broke a very sad news……our town was under a very heavy storm (and we could see the thunder and lighting from inside the room) and two bridges collapsed due to the overflowing of the two rivers that in different points cross the city. We all were trapped inside the hospital (the safest of all places, at least) until late in the evening. From cells and tv we tried to figure out what was happening outside, and the news were very bad. A big part of the city closer to one of the river was severely under a flood, many people were unable to reach their homes and shelters and meals were prepared by the local “Protezione Civile” (Civil Defence) for the night. All the voluntary organizations were involved to help those in need, two local clinics had to be almost completely evacuated and the patients moved to other hospitals. Suddenly all the telephone ground lines went down and the only cells working were the ones provided by Vodafone (mine) and Wind companies (and the situation lasted for at least 3 days). For more than a week some streets were closed to traffic and people obliged to seek hospitality from family and friends…….Luckily no one of my friends and family members suffered any damage, but these are a few pics taken from local media that day and the day after…..
